Join us on our tour as we remember the Great War. Uncover all aspects of the largest battle of the Western Front where over one million soldiers were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in 1916. Staying at the Mercure Hotel Arras within walking distance from the historic centre.  From our base in Arras, we will visit the key sites, locations, memorials, and cemeteries of the battlefields. We will discover fascinating insights and stories on this moving tour of remembrance in the company of our local historian expert. The findings from this tour will live with you forever.

Tour Plan

Day 01 Departure

On arrival at Belfast City Airport make your way to the Aerlingus Check-in area to meet your Tour Manager who will assist with check-in. Once you have checked-in and received your boarding passes proceed through security to your departure gate. On arrival in London Heathrow meet your tour manager at the baggage reclaim area. Join your coach and travel to Folkestone to take the Euro Tunnel to Calais before we make our way to the hotel in Arras, France.

Day 02 Explore the town of Arras

This morning you have some free time to explore the town of Arras and learn of its history. Our hotel is in the centre with many restaurants, bars, shops, and the impressive Grand Place. This afternoon meet your local expert and visit the Commonwealth War Graves and enjoy a tour of Vimy Ridge Memorial battlefield and trenches where 60,000 Canadians lost their lives. Afterwards, time permitting, we will explore a few other Somme sites before returning to the hotel.

Day 03 Activities

This morning after breakfast (departure time will be confirmed by your tour manager) we will meet our local expert and depart for a full day tour including The Irish Peace Tower, Tyne Cot Cemetery, Essex Farm, and site of the famous Christmas Truce. We explore Ypres at leisure before visiting the Passchendaele Memorial Museum. This evening we attend The Last Post Ceremony at The Menin Gate Memorial to the missing. Re-join your coach (departure time will be confirmed by your tour manager) and return to your hotel.

Day 04 Exploring

This morning after breakfast (departure time will be confirmed by your tour manager) we will meet our local expert and proceed to the Somme Valley. We will visit the Grandcourt Cemetery which marks the furthest point that the Royal Irish Rifles advanced behind the German Lines on the 1st July 1915. We will travel to visit The Ulster Tower, a memorial to the Officers and Men of the 36th (Ulster) Division – a replica of Helen’s Tower in Co. Down, and first official memorial to be erected on the Western Front. In the afternoon we will visit The Thiepval Memorial Museum and gravesite before visiting Lochnagar Crater. Later meet your coach (departure time will be confirmed by your tour manager) and make your way back to your hotel.

Day 05 End

This morning after breakfast and checking out meet your coach (departure time will be confirmed by your tour manager) and travel to Calais for your return Euro Tunnel trip to Folkestone. On arrival in Folkestone, we will travel toward London Heathrow with a comfort stop en-route. On arrival at London Heathrow Airport check-in for your return flight home to Belfast City Airport.
